I think I am missing an item from my purchase. What should I do, and who should I contact?
It is frustrating to purchase a brand new item and notice that an item is missing. Although this is a rare occurrence, if you believe your purchase is missing an item Xenonproject.com recommends you take the following steps to resolve this issue. First verify that you have received every box shipped. This can be done by using your supplied tracking number(s) and verifying that you have indeed received the correct number of packages. Second, once you have verified you have received the correct number of packages, it is now time to carefully examine the contents of the packages. Prior to working with our partner suppliers, we work with them to reduce the amount of packaging to limit our environmental impact. Although this is great for the environment, this often results in tightly packed boxes with every "nook and cranny" used to store parts and accessories. Please completely removed all items and packing materials and inspect them carefully on all sides. Once you have verified your shipment for missing packages and rechecked the packaging for the missing item and have not found it, please email us using our contact page, subject "technical", or at technical@xenonproject.com and inform us this missing item. When contacting us, please be specific, so our customer service agents will be best equipped to help resolve this issue.

I checked my order status online and was advised that my order has been on hold, or cancelled. Why?
If an order is placed online, but the credit card transaction had a processing error, the order will be placed on hold. We will then send you an email notification, informing you to retry placing your order. If there was another problem with the fulfillment of your order, we will contact you by email.

However, if this error was caused by Xenon Project, then the package will be reshipped at the expense of Xenon Project.

Nitro Vehicles

I cannot get my nitro motor going, have any tips?
The Xenonproject.com team has over 25 years of combined RC experience. In order to help our users with these and other common problems, we have assembled an extensive Learning Center which provides our customers with answers to most common questions. Simply visit our Learning Center http://www.xenonproject.com/guides.php.

What other items do I need so that the Vehicle will run?
You need 12AA (8 for the Transmitter, 4 for the on-board receiver). In addition, you will need Nitro Fuel (We recommend 20% Nitro, which can be purchased from most hobby shops). Lastly you will need a Glow Plug Igniter We recommend our starter kit; it includes a glow plug igniter and additional tools and accessories to perform maintenance.

What must I do, prior to running my nitro vehicle?
Before starting your engine for the first time, you will need to perform several things. In aid you in the process, the Xenonproject.com created an extensive Nitro Starter Guide available to our valued customers. Simply visit our Learning Center at http://www.xenonproject.com/guides.php to view or print our supplemental material.

Do you sell nitro fuel for your vehicles?
We do not sell nitro fuel for our vehicles. We cannot sell Nitro fuel by mail because of mailing regulations regarding flammable substances. However, it is readily available at most local hobby shops.

What % Nitro fuel should I use?
We highly recommend using 20% fuel.

How long do nitro models run on one tank of fuel?
When it comes to run time, the answer is it varies. Many different variables can effect run time such as fuel mixture setting (rich/lean), size, weight and driving style. However, as a rule of thumb, you can expect to get about 10-15 minutes of run time from one tank of fuel. As a bonus, nitro models can be quickly refueled without shutting off the engine, making long endurance racing possible.

What is "nitro" and what percentage of "nitro" should I run in my nitro engine?
Nitromethane is the ingredient in the fuel that ignites inside the engine. Higher "nitro" content generally equates to better performance. Engines are designed to run best within a range of nitro percentages. How the engine is ported, the size of the combustion chamber and other factors determine how much nitro can be efficiently used in the engine. We recommend that you use 20% with all of our nitro models.

Help, my nitro vehicle won't start, what might be the problem?
First check to make sure the engine is not stuck at Top Dead Center (TDC) (please see the guide located in our Learning Center for more information). Then make sure the glow plug lighter is fully charged and the glow plug is not weak or worn out. Lastly, we need to make sure fuel is getting to the engine. Make sure the fuel lines are not blocked or punctured. If they are okay, prime the engine (cover the exhaust port while pulling the pull starter until the fuel reaches the carburetor). If fuel reaches the carburetor, make sure it is properly adjusted (for more information on tuning please see the Nitro Starter Guide in our Learning Center).

My car doesn't start/won't keep running, what might be causing the problem?
The Xenonproject.com team has over 25 years of combined RC experience. Simply visit our Learning Center http://www.xenonproject.com/guides.php to view or print our supplemental material.

I am using my nitro model, but when I try to start the engine, it starts then stalls. What might be causing this and how can it be adjusted?
This common problem is generally solved with minor fuel mixture settings. The nitro powered vehicle has a carburetor with 3 different adjustments (High Speed, Low Speed and Idle Speed). One possible fix involves increasing idle speed. If this does not remedy the problem, you may need to further tune the high/low speed needles on the carburetor. If you need more information on engine tuning simply visit our Learning Center and review the Nitro Starter Guide. Other less common causes could include a worn out or damaged glow plug (Glow plugs are a consumable item and should be replaced regularly for optimum performance), fuel line blockage (make sure there are no leaks or blockages in the fuel line) or an excessively worn engine.

What is the correct way to turn on the transmitter/receiver on my nitro vehicle?
Every time you get ready to have fun with your nitro vehicle simply follow these simple steps. Always turn on the transmitter [First], and then turn on the receiver [Second]. By mistakenly turning on the receiver first, rather than second, you risk having the receiver pick up a radio signal from a source other than your transmitter. This may result in erratic uncontrolled movement.

My nitro vehicle is brand new, but it has poor performance and acceleration?
Don't be alarmed, this is usually remedied by making one/more adjustments. First, make sure you are not using old or contaminated fuel (for more information please check out our Nitro Fuel Guide located in our Learning Center). Second, check the glow plug and make sure it is not ruined or old. Third, make sure the carburetor is properly adjusted (if you need help, please see our Nitro Starter Guide located in our Learning Center). Fourth, make sure the air filter in not dirty (as poor airflow will result in diminished performance. Lastly, check to see if the spur gear is stripped or worn.

My nitro engine doesn't start - what might be causing the problem?
There are two main causes, a glow plug problem or an incorrect fuel / air mixture. It is important that the glow plug work properly. When a glow plug is working properly, it will burn a bright orange. However, a bad glow plug will not generate enough heart to burn or light the fuel / air mixture in the cylinder. The two main causes of glow plug problems stem from a bad glow plug or an uncharged glow plug igniter. Charge the glow plug igniter and retry or replace the glow plug. Secondly, the glow plug engine must have the correct fuel/air mixture when cranking the engine. There may be a lack of fuel if the tank is empty of there is a clog in the fuel line. However there may also be too much fuel in the cylinder (i.e. engine flooding) which can be caused by over priming. If you need more information, please see our Nitro guides in our Learning Center.

I installed batteries in both the transmitter and receiver, but when both the car and radio are switched on, the radio doesn't seem to work?
The Xenonproject.com team has over 25 years of combined RC experience. In order to help our users with these and other common problems, we have assembled an extensive Learning Center which provides our customers with answers to most common questions. Simply visit our Learning Center http://www.xenonproject.com/guides.php to view or print our supplemental material.

My engine starts, and then stalls, what should I look at to remedy this situation?
It depends on whether the stalls while the engine revs up or revs down slowing dying. If the engine stalls as the engine RPM increases, the low speed fuel mixture needs to be richened (turn the low-end screw counterclockwise. This will add more fuel, which then bring down the engine temperature and the idle speed). However if the engine stalls as the RPM slowly decreases and dies, the low speed fuel mixture needs to be leaned (turn the low-speed screw clockwise which would decrease the amount of fuel, increasing engine RPM). If you need additional help, please checkout out our nitro-tuning guide located on www.xenonproject.com/guides.php.

When I am using my RC model, I lose control after 50 feet. What might cause this and how can I fix it?
The number one reason why you may lose control over your RC model after 50 feet is due to the weak or completely discharged batteries. Make sure the batteries in both the on-board receiver and handheld transmitter are brand new. Caution: Using weak/old/mixed batteries can cause loss of radio transmission and possible damage to your RC model. Secondly, make sure to keep moisture away from the on-board receiver, as water contact can result in electrical damage and radio interference. And lastly, try to operate your RC model in a different area, as there may be some unseen radio waves from another hobby user or radio generating source like power lines, transformers etc.

My tires start to spin when the engine starts, how do I adjust this?
If your tires start to spin and your nitro vehicle moves forward as soon as the engine is started, your idle speed may be set too high. Simply reduce the idle speed by 1/16 increments until the vehicle no longer inches forward and the nitro vehicle stays on.

My engine is overheating on my Nitro vehicle, what might be causing this?
There are a variety of reasons why your engine may be stalling. The main reason why this problem may occur is due to the fuel. First verify that the fuel tank is not empty or extremely low, and then verify the fuel line for any obstructions or air bubbles. Secondly check the carburetor, to make sure it is properly tuned (please see our Nitro Starter Guide for more information on engine tuning).

Why won't the pull starter pull all the way out?
Your nitro engine pull start should not be pulled out more than 1 foot (30cm) to start the engine. Although it may be pulled nearly two feet, doing so may cause damage to the pull starter spring. However, if the pull start seems stuck and cannot be pulled out (around a foot) the engine may have become flooded. To remedy this situation simply see more information in our Learning Center.

The engine shuts off when I apply the brakes, how can I fix this?
This is commonly caused by an incorrectly tuned idle speed screw. To solve this problem simply increase the idle speed by increasing the needle in 1/16 increments until the engine will stay on without the car running.

Do I need to adjust the nitro carburetor, or does it come factory set?
Yes, you will need to adjust the carburetor in order to achieve optimal engine life, performance and fuel efficiency. From the factory, the carburetor is set to a rich fuel setting in order to facilitate the engine break in process. However, this factory setting is not optimal. Luckily, the Xenonproject.com team has over 25 years of RC experience. In order to help our users with these and other common problems, we have assembled an extensive Learning Center, which provides our customers with answers to this and other common questions. Simply visit out Learning Center located at: http://www.xenonproject.com/guides.php and review the Nitro Starter Guide located under RC Nitro Gas Vehicles.

Can I run my RC model at the same time as my friend?
The answer is it depends. On every radio system, there is a crystal in the transmitter and a matching crystal in the receiver onboard the vehicle. These crystals control the frequency at which the transmitter and receiver communicate. As long as your two radio systems are using different frequencies (different numbered crystals), they will not interfere with one another. Warning: Using two RC models on the same frequency may result in radio glitches and possible serious damage to your RC model.

How much smoke should be coming out from the exhaust on my nitro car?
It depends on how fast the car is running. When the car is idle, a small amount of smoke should be coming from the muffler or tuned pipe. However as the speed increase, so should the smoke. At full throttle, there should be a large amount of smoke from the tuned pipe or muffler.

Why do the rear wheels on my RC model point inwards instead of straight ahead (toed-in)?
Don't be alarmed- this in not only normal, but desired. The main reason for the rear wheels to point inwards is to prevent the RC vehicle from spinning out of control as it accelerates from a turn. In plain English, this result in greater acceleration and handling, resulting in faster laps and racing wins.

How can I avoid stripping or melting the spur gear on my Nitro vehicle?
Luckily, this is a easy fixed. The main reason why the spur gear may melt or strip is due to an incorrect distance between them. If the distance between them is too far, the power of the engine can easily tear up the gear in a heartbeat. If the distance between them is too close, excessive friction will cause the clutch to overheat, resulting in a melted/stripped spur gear. To adjust the distance loosen the four engine screws, allowing the engine to slide back and forth. Then place a small 1/4 inch by six-inch wide paper between the spur gear and clutch bell. Push the engine towards the spur gear then tighten the bolts and remove the paper. This procedure will help prevent damage to your transmission or spur gear that is not covered under warranty.

How does my nitro vehicle have a clutch, if so how does it work?
Yes, your nitro vehicle does indeed have a centrifugal clutch. When the engine is sitting idle, the clutch shoes do not touch the clutch bell. However, as the engine rotates faster, the centrifugal force will increase, causing the clutches to engage the clutch bell.

How do I prime the engine on my nitro-powered vehicle?
Some nitro powered vehicles include a primer on the fuel tank. If your model includes one simply press the primer until the fuel travels to the carburetor. However, if not equipped with a primer, simply cover the exhaust port and pull the crank until the fuel travels to the carburetor.

How do I stop/stall my engine?
The best way to stall the engine is to simply run it out of fuel. To stall the engine quickly, simply cut-off the exhaust with a rag or your finger. Be careful not to burn yourself.

How can I use a glow plug lighter to check the condition of my glow plug?
First, make sure the glow plug lighter is fully charged and its contacts are clean. Then take your glow plug, press it into the glow plug lighter, and watch the coil. The entire coil should instantly glow bright orange. If does not glow or glows dull red then you may need a new glow plug (if you are certain the glow plug is fully charged and is making good contact).

Can my car drift?
One of the basic elements of drifting is a light vehicle with a stiff Chassis. However, any 4WD touring car can be set up for drifting.

How do I learn to drift?
The easy way to learn to drift is to drive in a straight line. Now try to get a feel for a car's grip points (where the rear tires begin to lose their grip) by weaving the car back and forth. After you know a car's grip points try it again but at a faster speed. Do it until the tail of the car begins to swing and requires you to counter steer. Counter steer and practice losing control of the rear tires and preventing a car from looping out of control. Once you master the counter steer, practice losing traction in your rear tires ( you must maintain enough speed to get the car sideways and keep it there) and counter steering enough to prevent looping and losing the drift. With enough practice you'll be able to drift in every direction and maintain and change directions with ease. Just practice.

How do I know if the nitro engine is flooded?
The engine is locked up if the pull cord becomes hard to pull. Do not try to pull the cord loose, doing so may break the cord or damage the engine. Moreover, you can tell an engine is flooded if it won't start despite a fresh and few glow plug lighter.

How do I fix a flooded engine?
There are two main causes. The glow plug may be faulty, if so replace the glow plug. Secondly, the fuel/air mixture may be too rich. Adjust the carburetor accordingly. If you need additional information, please view our Nitro Starter Guide located in the Learning Center.

My engine is running too hot, how do I adjust this?
If your nitro engine is running hot, there is a good chance the engine is running lean, which can cause major engine damage. An engine will run lean if there is too much air or not enough fuel in the air/fuel mixture. This can be fixed by adjusting the carburetor (simply richen the fuel mixture), cleaning a dirty fuel filter (simply clean and reinstall the fuel filter, as a dirty filter will prevent fuel from reaching the carburetor), and a jammed component in the car itself (inspect the car, and ensure that the transmission and wheel rotate freely).

Nitro Gas Fuel

What is "nitro fuel"?
Nitro fuel refers to the type of fuel used in glow engines commonly found in RC airplanes, RC helicopters, RC boats and more recently, RC cars and trucks. The power and realistic sound that comes from nitro fueled engines has been one of the greatest reasons why people have been drawn to the world of RC vehicles.

Where can I purchase "nitro gas"?
You can purchase Nitro Gas inexpensively at any local hobby shop. More information about the different types of nitro gas is available here: http://www.xenonproject.com/rc-nitro-gas-fuel-explained-a-5.html

What is nitro fuel made of?
Nitro, short for nitro-methane is composed of a three main elements: methanol, nitro-methane and lubricants. Nitro delivers oxygen to the engine, improving combustion and providing more power. Oil and other lubricants help to keep the engine cool. Lastly methanol provides the main energy source for the RC engine.

How do I keep my fuel fresh?
If you have the opportunity, look for someone at a flying field on a sunny day who has a jug of fuel that is only 1/2 full. What you may notice is that there are droplets attached to the top and sides of the fuel. This is the moisture in the air that is condensing inside the jug because of the greenhouse effect due to the semi-translucent nature of a plastic jug. One way to overcome the greenhouse effect is to store your fuel in a metal can. You can also combat the effects of the moisture in the air by squeezing all the extra air from your fuel container at the end of the day or transferring your fuel into smaller containers as the level of fuel is reduced in your gallon jug. Many pilots will invest in half-gallon or quart-size containers and only bring that amount of fuel to the field on any given day. This allows their main supply of fuel to stay at home in a controlled storage environment, virtually insuring problem-free fuel.

Why would fuel go "bad"?
The largest portion of the fuel is methanol (alcohol). Methanol is hygroscopic; it attracts moisture. This can cause your fuel to become contaminated with water, which will cause poor engine performance. Additionally, the UV rays in sunlight will eventually break down the nitro-methane if the fuel jug is stored in sunlight for long periods of time.

How can you tell when your fuel has gone "bad"?
The first indication will generally be the inability to start the engine at previously run needle-valve settings. Another clue might be that the engine does a very poor job idling, and runs but bogs down tremendously during run up and/or will not attain the same RPMs as you are used to.

My tracking number is not valid. What should I do?
Do not be alarmed. For most shipping carriers, the tracking number does not become valid until that package arrives at a central distribution hub. Also, sometimes a driver can fail to scan a package which can result in a tracking number appearing invalid for a short duration of time. Please wait a day or two to see if the item has been scanned. If, after a few days, the package is not found, contact us via phone or mail and we will be glad to help you locate your package.

The shipment was refused and was returned to Xenon Project, what will happen now?
For international orders, typically the delivery of items to your door is completed by a local carrier. Because Xenon Project has no control over the product once it leaves the United States, any problems with delivery from that point forward cannot be the responsibility of Xenon Project.

What mode is the transmitter?
All of our transmitters are "mode 2", which means that the throttle is on the left control stick.

RC Helicopters

What makes RC helicopters so appealing?
Helicopters can do just about anything you can imagine, including flying. They can hover, fly backwards, sideways, or do pirouettes while in forward flight. They can perform stall turns, loops, rolls, tumbles, and other complicated maneuvers. They can even fly upside down and hover inches off the ground. Let's see an airplane or a real helicopter do that!

I want to fly an RC helicopter, but is it expensive?
The answer to this is both yes and no. You can buy a basic helicopter for under a hundred dollars, which means you can get a good sized model without having to spend a fortune. However, for a couple hundred dollars more, you can purchase a quality 6 channel helicopter that will provide you with hours of entertainment.

How hard is it to fly?
Of all the radio controlled vehicles out there, helicopters are definitely the hardest to fly, but don't let this discourage you. Yes, they are harder to use than an RC car, but anybody who really wants to learn to fly can do so with a little patience and diligence. We recommend you start off with a flight simulator. Pretty soon, you'll be hovering, flying, and even looping your way into the world of RC helicopters.

Do I need to know how to fly an airplane first in order to fly a helicopter?
Definitely not. In fact, there are techniques used in flying airplanes that can hinder the process of learning how to fly helicopters.

How high/far can a RC helicopter fly?
Although this depends on a variety of factors, the single greatest factor is your line of sight. While some transmitters have a transmission range over a mile, most helicopters would disappear long before you lose radio contact.

How fast can an RC helicopter fly?
RC helicopters are capable of speeds exceeding 50 mph, but it depends on a variety of factors such as the size of the helicopter, the type of motor, and the rotor diameter.

How long does it take to learn to fly?
This all depends on how hard you work at it. Generally, it will take most people weeks of practice. It all depends on your personality, interest level, and how much you enjoy flying. We have seen many people perform loops and rolls within their first month! The key point to remember is to have fun along the way. You may have fun just flying around, or you might be the type who wants to get the most out of your helicopter, meaning you will work very hard at executing maneuvers with precision. It all depends on you.

What happens when you crash?
In a light crash (bad bounce), you might break some non-essential parts, such as landing gear. However, in average crashes (helicopter lands on its side), the first things to go are the tail boom, the main blades and the fly bar. When it comes to really bad crashes, you will have to look over the helicopter carefully to find parts that haven't been broken.

Can I repair a damaged rotor blade?
Not really. Rotor blades are balanced very precisely and attempting to fix a damaged rotor blade can result in further damage to your helicopter.

Can I fly anywhere, whenever I feel like it?
Open spaces are usually the best place for flying. Moreover, when flying, you should keep in mind the size of the site, who owns the property, and where electrical lines, houses and neighborhoods are located.

Can I run my RC model at the same time as my friend?
On every radio system, there is a crystal in the transmitter and a matching crystal in the receiver onboard the model. These crystals control the frequency that your vehicle uses when transmitting a radio signal. As long as your two radio systems are using different frequencies (different numbered crystals), they will not interfere with one another. Warning: Using two RC models on the same frequency may result in serious damage to your RC model.

How long will my RC helicopter fly on a single charge?
This depends on a number of factors, such as the battery capacity and the weight of the helicopter. The average helicopter can fly anywhere from 5 - 18 minutes depending on the aggressiveness of the pilot.

How long does battery charging take?
Battery charging time can range from 2 - 5 hours, depending on your model. Check the charger documentation for more information.

What mode is the transmitter?
All of our transmitters are "mode 2", which means that throttle controls are tied to the left control stick. This is the standard configuration in the US, as well as in most other countries.

What is the correct way to turn on the transmitter/receiver on my helicopter?
Always turn on the transmitter [First], and the receiver [Second]. By turning on the transmitter first, you negate the risk of picking up stray radio signals that could send your RC careening into a wall.

What is the difference between fixed pitch and collective pitch helicopters?
On a fixed pitch helicopter, the main blades cannot change their pitch (angle). Lift is controlled by varying the RPMs of the rotor, much like an airplane. However, on collective pitch helicopters, the main blades are capable of changing their pitch. A collective pitch helicopter has the ability to vary the pitch of the main rotor blades as they rotate, allowing for greater maneuverability.

What is an 'auto' or autorotation?
An 'auto,' or autorotation, is when the main blades of the helicopter spin using only the residual energy left in the blades. An 'auto' is used when you need to land your helicopter without power. Knowing how to perform an 'auto' can save your helicopter in the event of a motor failure. When a helicopter is upright, this can be done by giving the main rotor blades a negative pitch so they act like a windmill. This will help to maintain sufficient rotation in the main blades to safely land your helicopter.

Why won't my helicopter 'lift' off?
There are two main causes for this. First, check the battery to see if it is fully charged. If not, charge the batteries until full. Secondly, check the pitch on your main rotor blades. Adjusting the pitch should give your helicopter the necessary lift to take off.

Why does my helicopter vibrate as I increase the throttle?
There are four main causes for this. 1) The main rotor blades may be incorrectly balanced/matched. 2) The screws on the main blades may be too tight. 3) The fly bar may be incorrectly balanced. 4) The main shaft may have become bent after a heavy crash.

What is the purpose of the tail rotor on my helicopter?
The helicopter tail rotor has two key functions. First, it controls the yaw, the left/right direction of the nose/tail. Secondly, the tail rotor will counter the rotational torque created by the main rotor blades.

My helicopter battery has two connectors. Which one do I connect to the receiver?
Some helicopter batteries have two connectors. The two-wire connector plugs into the receiver, while the multi-wire connector is used for charging. If you accidentally switch the connectors and plug in the multi-wire connector into the helicopter, you will short circuit the receiver.

Help, I turned on my helicopter, but the main blades won't respond when I increase the throttle. Is my helicopter defective?
Don't be alarmed. This is often due to an important safety feature found on most RC helicopters. When you turn on the helicopter, make sure the throttle stick and the throttle trim tab are set to their lowest settings. After a few seconds, the light on the receiver should stabilize, initializing the throttle controls. This feature prevents the helicopter from taking off as soon as you turn on the helicopter.

My helicopter spins in circles, even though the trim is set in the opposite direction. How do I correct this?
Adjust the proportion control. Simply disconnect the battery and turn the screw in the direction you want the nose to point. Then reconnect the battery, which should allow the unit to be recalibrated.

My helicopter has a gyro, but the helicopter tail wiggles. Is it defective?
If your gyro-equipped helicopter wiggles, you may simply need to increase the gain on the gyro.

No matter what I do, my RC helicopter always seems to drift to the left. I have good control of the tail rotor, but as soon as I go up in the air, the helicopter goes left. Is this normal?
This is normal. This drift is a naturally occurring phenomenon of all helicopters with a tail rotor. This includes real helicopters, as well. As the main blades rotate, this creates a counter-rotating force that causes the body of the helicopter to rotate in the opposite direction of the rotor blades. In order to counteract this effect, the tail rotor creates a sideways thrust counteracting the rotation of the helicopter, but it does not completely cancel out this force. When flying, you will need to counter this effect with a bit of right aileron upon lifting off, and provide a bit of right aileron to maintain a steady hover.

I turned on my helicopter but it just spins in circles. Is the helicopter defective?
First, check that the tail servo is responding to the transmitter. If it does, the on-board gyro may need a gain adjustment (or reversing). If not, make sure to give the gyro enough time to calibrate before operating. If the servo does not respond, bypass the gyro entirely and connect the tail servo directly to the receiver. If at this moment control is regained, the servo is faulty and must be replaced.

When I turn on the helicopter, its veers violently in one direction as the helicopter leaves the ground. Is there anything wrong?
Prior to turning on the helicopter, make sure the helicopter swash plate is level. Adjust the ball-links on the pushrods to achieve a level swash plate. Remember though, a slight drift to the left is normal, as it is caused by the rotational torque of the main blades.

General RC

I want to get into RC's as a serious hobbyist. How much does it cost?
It really depends. As with most things, you can spend as little or as much as you want depending on what you want to purchase. When it comes to RCs, though, price is not always an indicator of quality. You can find some quality helicopters, planes and nitro vehicles for around $100-150.

Xenonproject.com sells its products at such low prices. Are your products refurbished?
Xenonproject.com does not carry used or returned products on our website. Every vehicle on our website is brand new and in factory direct packaging.

What does mAH stand for?
mAH is short for "milliamp Hours." This is the standard unit of measure for battery capacity. Simply put, it's a measure of how much power the battery is capable of holding. Generally speaking, more mAH results in a longer run time.

I turned off the RC transmitter and lost control of my vehicle. Is this normal?
This is a common mistake. Make sure to always turn the transmitter off last.

I just purchased an RC from Xenonproject.com. Do I need to purchase a voltage plug converter?
As a US based company, our products come standard with a US compatible charger. We use a standard 110V charger for all our electric products. Whether or not you'll need a voltage converter depends on the standards used in your own country.

Boats

How hard is it to operate an RC boat?
Operating an RC boat is relatively simple. Much like an RC car, there are only 2 channels to operate, the speed and the direction. Furthermore, there are fewer obstacles in the water making navigating much easier, even for beginners.

What are boats made out of?
Boats are made of plastic, wood and fiberglass. However, most Ready-To-Run (RTR) boats are primarily made of ABS plastic.

What is the correct way to turn on the transmitter/receiver on my boat?
Always turn on the transmitter [First], and the receiver [Second]. By turning on the transmitter first, you negate the risk of having the receiver pick up a radio signal from an outside source which can in erratic uncontrolled movement.

Batteries

Which battery is best for me?
When choosing the proper battery for your RC, you must look at the voltage. If your electric motor works with an 11.1V battery back, then you will need a 3 cell battery (3.7V x 3= 11.1V). Secondly, you should take a look at the available capacities. A higher the battery capacity equals a longer run time.

What is a Li-Po battery?
Lithium batteries are found in many electronic devices, such as cell phones and laptops. When compared to NiMh or NiCd batteries, lithium batteries have a greater capacity at roughly the same size and weight. Over the past couple of years, lithium batteries have migrated into the hobby market, and are now used extensively in electric helicopters, boats, cars, and airplanes. Due to their light weight and high battery capacity, they are ideal for RC helicopter aircrafts, as they provide longer flight time than their outdated counterparts.

How do you charge LIPO batteries?
It is important to learn how to properly handle your lithium battery packs. The first step is to plug in the charger. We recommend you plug the charger in first, as most charging cables have exposed connectors which can short circuit. Now connect the battery to the charger. If you have just finished using your LiPo battery, wait until your battery has cooled down before charging it again. Once the charging process has started, the charger will take care of everything. After 3-5 hours (depending on your specific battery pack and charger), you can unplug the battery and use it again.

What is a LIPO balancer?
One important device that protects your Li-Po battery is a balancer. Lithium polymer batteries can be damaged in numerous ways. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, physical damages, high temperatures, and unbalanced voltages. Of these various culprits, the most difficult to control is the voltage. Since the batteries are wired in a series, they will, over time, become unbalanced (each cell will have a slightly different voltage). This can lead to individual cells being charged at higher voltages than they are capable of. A battery charger can only read the average voltage of a battery, not the individual cells. This means that the charger will charge the battery as a whole at 4.2V/cell, but the individual cells can still have varying voltages. A LiPo balancer works by connecting cell taps to each individual cell of the battery. By using these taps rather than the standard charger, the balancer can assess and correct the voltage of each cell.

How do I use a LIPO balancer?
Though general balance procedures may vary by model and brand, the general procedure for using a balance is as follows. Connect the balancer to the battery before charging. Plug the charging unit into the wall and connect the charger to the balancer. That's it. Although a balancer can be used with every charge, it is not always necessary. If your battery is kept in good condition and has been properly cared for, the can be used occasionally for maintenance purposes.
